About Iovine and Young Center
The Iovine and Young Center (IYC) is high school reimagined – a place where discovery, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and real-world, project-based learning happen every day. Music icons Jimmy Iovine and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young co-founded IYC in 2022. While working at Beats Electronics, Jimmy and Dr. Dre noticed an education gap in the tech workforce. Specifically, employees knew a lot about the liberal arts or technology but not both. In 2013, Jimmy and Dr. Dre announced plans for the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation to prepare college students to think critically, create, and innovate within technology, design, and business. Years later, Jimmy and Dr. Dre wanted to scale down the challenge-based curriculum of their Academy to introduce these concepts to secondary school students and give them an edge when navigating higher learning and modern tech-based careers.
High school students now have the opportunity to experience an interdisciplinary program focused on design, technology, and entrepreneurship that allows them to tackle industry- and society-driven challenges, develop and advance technology skills and knowledge, and ideate and create business ventures. At IYC, students collaborate with top executives, industry experts, and educators to dream up fresh ideas and groundbreaking possibilities. The first Iovine and Young Center opened in Los Angeles in 2022, with locations in Atlanta and now Inglewood, California – coming in 2025 – following suit.
